I have plenty of friends that travel into the USA for trade shows and conferences and I have never heard of any of them having visas denied. I would think you should contact FMI about it directly. I believe in the past if you cancelled 30 days before you get a refund less a cancellation fee. Contact FMI.
Thanks ... I contacted FMI email ... they suggested the knowledge base and the forums
Did you try the devcon contact email?
Ya ... sorry devcon email is what I tried .. maybe FMI is what I should try
You can contact Shari Martinez and ask about it.
In general I would get the visa first.
Thanks .. Last time I went for VISA interview they asked for my purpose of visit documents.. so i think I will need to have the registration done first ...
Anyways I will try and contact Shari
Well, it's Las Vegas, so getting a tourist visa for a week should be possible.
Maybe take a printout of the FileMaker DevCon website with you?
And ask Shari for a letter from FileMaker with announcement or better invite to join the conference.
Sometimes that helps a lot.
Christian has good advice. I do know many of my international friends often get official invitation letters from the trade shows and conferences to help secure their Visa issuance. I forgot about that.
Here is a sample one sent out by SEMA/AAPEX (auto industry). They send one out automatically for any foreign registrant since 2010, but registration is only $25 so it's not a big loss if the visa is denied. Maybe FileMaker could be doing this pre registration in a more formal fashion.
