Is it possible to change the color of text if it contains a particular string? Alternatively, is it possible to have items of a values list to have different colors?
The conditional formatting dialog:
You can have multiple "conditions" and each one set to a different set of formats.
Is this what you are using or something else? Can you post scripts or other screen shots?
PatternCount ( text ; "particular string" ) ; TextColor ( text ; RGB ( some ; your ; color ) ) ;
If you use this in auto-enter calculation, change "text" to "Self".
Value list can't have different colors.
Thanks. I attached this "Formula is" for a field with a drop down list as a Conditional. The color did not change to red when I selected a value that contains (FR):
PatternCount ( Self ; "(FR)" ) ; TextColor ( Self ; RGB ( 255 ; 0 ; 0 ) ) ;
Obviously, I'm not doing something(s) right. How do I use your formula?
That's not how Conditional Formatting works.
1. you can change the color of the text in the field (as it is entered) using the formula in the "auto-enter" calculation of the field definition
2. you can change the color of the text in the field with conditions (one for each condition)
Forumla = PatternCount ( Self ; "(FR)" ) // then set the text color in the dialog box
(repeat for each pattern and color)
Part 2 of your question: you cannot use the values from a value list as different colors (a checkbox set, a drop-down, etc.)
Sorry, but what do you mean by: then set the text color in the dialog box
Where and how do you do that?
Thank you very much.
Beverly is correct. However, you can do colors if you use an alternate method (like a pick list in a portal or List view).
I have a drop down list:
Then tried the adding the conditional:
but the item stays black.
Just tried this myself, Scott, and it works exactly as you have shown, value list and all. I would look for something else that is going on there. Is there some auto-enter calc on that field that might be overriding the conditional formatting?
You are right fletch, it works for new records but not, for some reason, old record fields. Thank you all for your help!!
