fm 14 WebDirect Problems "Database Not Available"

    ChristiPalme_mn

I have a client running fmServer 14 on a mac mini server running Mac OS X 10.8.5 with 3 database files set up for web direct access, but the files will not open via Web Direct.  There are no spaces or dots in the titles, all 3 files have the web direct extended privilege set on for all users, the WebDirect service is on and the Admin Console indicates the files are available for web direct.  The Web Direct home page loads and displays the file but when one clicks one, the error "Database Not Available" is displayed.   We've made sure ports, 80, 443, 5003, and 2399 are open on the firewall.  Any clues as to what else to look at or what to change?

      best regard,

      Christi Palme

          Thank you for your post.

Mac OS X 10.8.5 is not a supported operating system for FileMaker Server 14.  See Knowledge Base Article #14401 for the FileMaker Server 14 System Requirements:

          http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14401

For a listing of ports required by FileMaker Server 14, see Knowledge Base Article #14402:

Ports used by FileMaker Server | FileMaker

Regardless, what browser(s) are you using to access the files via WebDirect?  The supported browsers are Safari, Chrome, and Internet Explorer.

Are you using SSL?  If so, what certificate are you using?

If you still encounter issues, start by either updating your server to Mac OS X 10.9 or later, or reinstall FileMaker Server 13 as it is certified to run under Mac OS X 10.8.5.

Sorry, I mis-typed.  The server is running 10.10.5  The browsers I've tried are Safari 9.0.2 and Chrome 48.0.2564.116 (64-bit).  The client uses Windows computers and I'm not sure if they're trying firefox or IE but they get the same result.  We're not using SSL.

                Thank you for the information.

"Database Not Available" generally occurs when a database file is making reference to another database file is not present.

Using FileMaker Pro, open the hosted file.  Pull down the File menu and select "File Options...".  Click on the Script Triggers tab and see if there is a checkmark next to either OnFirstWindowOpen or OnWindowOpen.  If there is, check the script being executed and see if there is any reference to a file being opened.  If so, make sure that file is also configured for WebDirect.

If there is no script being executed, pull down the Window menu and select "Show Window" and see if there are any hidden files.  If so, make sure those files are also configured for WebDirect.

Pull down the File menu and select Manage -> Database...   Click the Relationships tab, and see if there are any related files that are not configured for WebDirect.

Keep me updated with any progress.

Yep. I've checked all that. This is how the admin console appears regarding availability of the related files to web direct Screen Shot 2016-03-01 at 7.25.47 AM.png

these are all the files in the solution. the WRCAdmit is the starting point (I've since this screen shot, made the first two shared but hidden on the web direct home screen but the results were the same either way)

Launch a browser on the server, and use localhost to connect to WRCAdmit.fmp12.  Does this work?  If not, then we have a WebDirect issue or some other service using port 80.  If it does work, then verify the LAN and WAN settings, router settings, and possibly port forwarding.

Launching a browser on the server and getting there by way of localhost had the same problem.  I have an IT person checking 80 for other services trying to use it.  Another bit of information is that the admin console shows the web server running on an IP address other than the expected one (an internal one that it may have picked up during install because the server wasn't in it's final resting place during installation).  Is there a way to change this without uninstalling/reinstalling server 14?

The only way to change the IP Address is by uninstalling and reinstalling.

In Admin Console -> Status -> Web Server, is the Web Connection set for port 80?

Before reinstallation, try accessing the file via the listed IP Address.  Does this work?

Yes it's set for port 80, no it doesn't work at that IP because the server isn't at that IP anymore.  It was moved after the fmServer install which appears to be the problem.  We're reinstalling early Monday.  It would be nice if a future version had a way to modify the port the web server is pointing to without uninstalling/reinstalling.  In the mean time, we'll just be making sure that when web services are involved to have the server in it's final place before installing.

                          peace,
