create a script in the second file that goes to that layout. Then, add a data source (FileMaker file) from the first file to the second file - and create a script in the first file that runs the file in the second file...
"and create a script in the first file that runs the file in the second file..."
Oops. I'm sure you meant to say:
and create a script in the first file that runs the SCRIPT in the second file...
I suspect you will need to add more detail about this.
You want to go to any record, in the layout in the second file?
Or you want to go to a particular record?
Also - are you aware that you do not necessarily have to use the layout in the second file at all.
You can create a layout in the first file, that displays data from the second file.
It probably would be helpful to describe more about what you are trying to do, what these two files represent, and what task the user is trying to perform when moving between these files.
I think you meant 'that runs the file script in the second file...'
I basically just want to go between two different widows in two different files. If one of the files is not open open that file. I'm sure once I get going I will think of other things to do with the approach.
At any rate; you already have your answer.
Thanks for the help, got things working, easier than I thought, nice capability. Is there a way to open the second file that I want to open the window in? So far have to have the second file open.
The previously provided instructions will do that.
(Message 1; create script in second file, call script from first file)
So it is not at all clear what "got things working" means; especially when - well - you say they aren't working.
Just tried it again today, and the approach is opening the second file, it wasn't doing that yesterday? But all is okay now, thanks to the help.
