Filemaker web viewer / java

Can anyone tell me if the filemaker web viewer requires java 6?

We have had java 8 version 66 (and now version 77 because it was accidentally upgraded and now I can't find a java 8 version 66 installer if anyone can provide me with a link! We already have 14b installed so I can't install it again to get it out of the server) but it will not work unless we have java 6 installed as well. However, it seems that having the apple java 6 installed in addition to the other has been causing our filemaker server application to crash once a week and sometimes up to 3 times a day.

We do use a custom web address.

Our individual computers are running filemaker pro 14.

Our server and computers are using El Capitan.

We just recently discovered our crashes are related to java in some way.

Our error logs suggest that our java vm is running out of memory. Does anyone know how to increase the java heap space for filemaker?
