Surely you mean from 10 to 14?
What are you field types? Do text fields display a "?" ? Number fields do display "?" but text don't as far as I see?
14 of course
My problem are text fields displaying only "?".
For some layouts (like invoices) I don't need the complete field content to be displayed, but only "?" is not acceptable.
In FM 10 the text was just truncated, and this was fine.
There is no way to "advise" filemaker to display only X chars if the field contains longer than x.
You CAN however set up a calculated field that does Left ( the_field ; show_number_of_chars ) and use that for display.
What you will find is it will be difficult to set show_number_of_chars to a value that can accommodate all display conditions.
Don't take it personally but I just checked in 14 and my text fields are fine :-)
Look at Job Name here on the second record (my eldest and I are reading a bit of Kipling atm, its influencing my test data :-) )
And with the field shrunk
Thats FMPA 14.0.5 on OS X 10.10.5
My current bet is your field is a calc with type set to number (because I do that all the time)...........
A couple of things to consider, first ensure the field corners don't have exaggerated round corners and check that high padding numbers haven't been added to each field as a result of the upgrade.
We often use conditional formatting with a calculation of Length (Self ) > Character number, then select a smaller font size. You can have more than one conditional formatting entry to gradually reduce the font size if needed.
Hope this helps
This seems to be a layout issue.
The fields mentioned are displayed in an area and are referenced from a cross table.
In this cross table the content is truncated in shorter fields as desired.
In the Inspector under "Data formatting" I changed "Format" from "Generic" to "As entered" (I don't know the correct English names, as I'm using a German version).
Thanks for your help!
Here is a solution that works for me.
it is designed for text, but you can use it for Number fields too.
