I downloaded the FMS 14.0.4b Patch app to my iMac computer. I opened the FMS 14 Admin Console and closed all Databases.
When I try to open the Patch app, it says I must Stop the Server.
How do I do this?
You actually have to stop the service and not just close the database.
You can also use the FMSADMIN command to stop it too.
I stopped the FMS and did the Update . Now I cannot Start the Server. I open the Admin Console and only have access to anything I get a popup that says Server Administrator must Start the Database Server.
How do I do the Start??
You may want to reboot the machine after installing the patch.
Otherwise, close the admin console and use the command line:
fmsadmin start server
If it gives you an error then check the FMS event log and the Windows Application event log.
Thanks. After restarting my computer I had the blue start button appear but dimmed out. I restarted the computer again and it is now running. Is "fmsadmin start server" the command you put in the Terminal to Start the FMS?
Yes, "fmsadmin start server" is what you would put in. However, unless you turned it off as the default, when the server restarts, it starts the service automatically. So unless you manually stopped it, it is doubtful that this will help you start it.
When the blue button is dimmed out, it is often busy until is goes a more solid dark grey for off or blue for on. I would leave it alone for a while to see if it goes to dark grey or blue. It may just need some time, especially if using a slow disk system such as an iMac with a slow 5400 rpm drive.
If I recall, the 14.0.4(b) is for Mac OS X 10.11.4 and you may not want to put the (b) patch on unless at 10.11.4. What version of the OS are you on?
Yes I have Mac OS X 10.11.4.
Now I understand that it was busy when the Start/Stop button was dimmed. I was expecting it to switch faster and that I was not doing it right.
So it is now working great. I just was not waiting for it to Start.
Thanks for the explanation.
