Problem 1 solved:
How do I specify a 56% scaling in a Save Records as PDF statement while using Append ?
File menu set "Page Setup" Orientation and Scale This is then applied to PDF output.
Still need to figure out why Append does not work on FMGo
thank you scramble, missing the obvious I guess…
Since Append is not supported on FMGo, I guess Perform Script on server and email the result would be the next best approach.
Although, this means somehow specifying an arbitrary found set of records on the server before running the pdf.
on page 13 of the FMGo Development Guide it shows that I can create a snapshot link in FMGo.
I wonder if I can somehow open this found set on the server before running creating the pdf on the server?
What is the best way to pass a found set to a server?
• Perhaps I could create a snapshot link on FMGo
• put the snapshot link file it into a container field
• and pass this as a parameter to the server to get it onto the server.
• write the content of the container field to a file on the server
• open the resulting snapshot file ( how best to do this OpenFile, OpenURL file:///) ?
• Create pdf file with appends
• email the resulting file ( of course then I need to ask for an email too )
All suggestions are most welcome. Thank you
sigh, all for lack of append in creating a pdf on FMG… there must be a better way
Save Records As Snapshot Link
Unfortunately you are at strike two. Save as PDF is not a supported server script step. There are multiple discussions on how to to get the PDF on the server but they all require extra work and time to accomplish.
How many pages need appended and are they multi-pages? I've been able to print some very complex reports on an iPad that I would use append to PDF of a computer. I used a series of sub-summaries, leading/trailing grand summaries and container fields to accomplish this.
evidently On a FM Server you can append PDFs via PDFKit or DynaPDF functions in MBS Plugin.
but this is a really complex solution that is bandwidth dependent when you just want to create
a simple set of reports based on found set on FMGo.
thank you rGordon
There may be a few, many or hundreds of pages of output. Quite simple variation on a few pages per record, where the first page covers multiple other records and so only needs to be printed once for every set of following records.
Right now my choices are to keep it simple and provide a pdf that show forms A,B & C for every record instead of the appropriate A, B,C, B, C, B, C, A, B, C, A, B, C, B, C for instance.
I understand that very complex output can be constructed and each of these forms are fairly complex in themselves.
I've been able to create all the PDFs I need as single page PDFs, then I place them in the temp folder. The PDFs are then displayed in full page container fields. Once this is completed, I create a single PDF. This works well if you don't have a lot of pages but if have hundreds of pages this technique would not be practical.
