Anyone know of a direct replacement that can replace QuickTime while still running movies with the .MOV extension? I do not want to convert and rename files. Hoping to find a QT player that is a direct replacement for Windows Quicktime.
I like the VLC player and its on Windows, Mac and Linux and plays MPEG-1/2, DivX, MPEG-4 ASP, DivX® 4/5/6, XviD, 3ivX D4, H.261, H.263, H.264, MPEG-4 AVC, Cinpak, Theora, Dirac, MJPEG, WMV, Sorenson (Quicktime), DV, On2, Indeo Video, Real Video. And the price is FREE!!!
Thanks Taylor. I have a question on the VLC forum also. My question there was the same, can I simply uninstall QT and install VLC without having to convert or rename my .MOV files?
I think at most you would have to tell your operating system to preferentially use VLC to open the file. On a Mac you can change that easily through Get Info and under Open with: set the desired application, on a Win system not so sure. I have used this method successfully for some fmp12 files that I want only to open with FMP12 and not FMP14.
I downloaded the free VLC as suggested by Taylor Sharpe, installed and launched and my QT movies are running without any mods or renaming. Thank you Taylor!
