I want to change the size, font and colour of Placeholder Text. I cannot find a reference in the online help the Resources seem to have disappeared. Am I in the wrong place - no more Forum?
In the top section, just under Container, there's a selector that says "Normal". Click that and you'll be able to set the appearance for the other states, including Placeholder Text, which will appear at the bottom.
Select "Placeholder Text" from the popup in the first section of the Inspector's Appearance tab.
Does this help:
Hi Beverly - please see my earlier reply - there is not Placeholder Text option on Appearance tab
I'm running v. 14.0.5 FMP on a 13" MacBook Air. if that helps. I've managed it once before but it wasn't obvious.
You can change "Normal" to "Placefolder Text" in "Style:" dropdown.
Thank you - so easy when you know how.
The help topic says
From the object state list (the second list in the Appearance tab), choose Placeholder Text.
This merely another way to say
... click on the drop-down that says, "Normal" (_the second list_) and change to "Placeholder Text".
I see you marked #5 as the correct answer, so now you "get it".
When dealing with objects and the Appearance tab in the Inspector, there may be different 'states'. You may wish to create a test database and play around with various objects and their appearance to see what you may do. There are some powerful options in there!
The actual text you use can be set by calculation. If you click the pencil next to the placeholder text it opens up the calculation dialog, where you can use the various text formatting functions available to format the placeholder text however you want. For example, the following formula will produce the word "placeholder" as red 18pt text:
TextColor ( TextSize ( "placeholder" ; 18 ) ; RGB ( 255 ; 0 ; 0 ) )
It looks better than conditional formatting for field data
I wonder same pencil icon on "Display data from" show different dialog that can only select field... when this will be changed
