Are you using it as a summary field, or a break field?
It is currently set as a summary field.
Sorry Mike I was confused. This is just a calc field that shows the month of the date the job was created. I am just trying to organize the jobs into groups based on the month they were created. I was under the impression I could just put any field in there and summarize by it assuming its sorted correctly.
You can sort on that field, which then becomes the "break field". But are you trying to summarize data? If all you want to do is group records, then you don't need a summary field.

You can put in any summary field …
Right I shouldn't have used the word summarize data - just want to group it into Months. But when I try to do that, its including months in the same group - April and May are both showing up under April. I dont need a summary of the Months - I just want all the jobs from May to be in one group under "MAY",etc.
You should change your calc field to, say,
Month ( DateCreated ) ;
Year ( DateCreated )
because sorting by MonthName ( DateCreated ) will order your groups alphabetically …
To display the month name as group header, simply put the DateCreated field into the sub-summary part and format it to only show the month name.
for just this reason (report sorting and charts), I have a field called yr_mon which is auto-enter calc:
Year(myDateField) & "_" & Right("00" & Month(myDateField); 2)
then when I sort the months are grouped correctly within the year (sort by this field).
As for DISPLAY, you can just place your date field on the layout in the summary part and format for showing only the Month name (no calc needed).
This worked - thank you.
