ODBC stored procedure: define script on server, call from client

I want a stored procedure (update query) to be executed in a remote SQL Server database, being called from FM client users. I know we can define an ODBC connection and make a script that will do it. I am being told (by the person who actually does the FM programming) that each client machine will have to have its own ODBC connection and define its own script. My question: is it possible to set an ODBC connection and a script on the FM server, and allow the client users to call that script, which would be executed by the server? Or is the only other option to have a "scheduled task" on the FM server to run the script at fixed times?
