FileMaker 14 "Adjust Window" bug in El Capitan

    scottworld

      Hi there,

We have discovered a bug with FileMaker 14.0.5 running on OS X El Capitan 10.11.4. The bug involves the "Adjust Window" script step.

Here are the resources you will need to reproduce the bug:

      a) Mac running El Capitan (OS X 10.11.4).

      b) FileMaker Pro 14.0.5.

      c) Two displays. (This bug only happens on the SECONDARY DISPLAY, not the primary display.)

Here are the steps you will need to take:

      1. Open up your FileMaker database, and move the window over to the secondary display.

      2. Hide FileMaker's status toolbar (Uncheck the menu option located at "View > Status Toolbar").

      3. Run a script with the script step "Adjust Window [Resize To Fit]" in it.

      4. HERE'S THE BUG: When the script gets to the step "Adjust Window [Resize to Fit]", the top of your window will disappear underneath the top of the display. Ugh!!

Note that this bug will NOT happen under any of the following circumstances:

      - If you are running FileMaker 13.

      - If you are running Yosemite (OS X 10.10)

      - If FileMaker's status toolbar is showing.

      - If the FileMaker window is on the primary display.

      Thanks,

      Scott

          Thank you for your post.

Is the secondary display to the right of the primary display?  To the left of the primary display?

Are the resolutions of the two monitors the same?  If not, what are the resolutions?  And if not, is the secondary display aligned with the top edge of the primary display?  Bottom edge?

just a possible work around to catch the second window in order to manually adjust:

            - temporarily activate Display 'Sync-Option' (same content on both) for the 2 displays

              Hi TSGal,

Thanks for your help with this issue. We've isolated the issue to a few very specific things:

              - This issue only happens on the brand new 21.5" Retina 4K iMacs (late 2015 model). It does not happen on any non-Retina iMacs that we have tested this on. So it seems to be isolated to the Retina 4K iMacs. We tested it on two different Retina 4K iMacs, and the problem cropped up. But this problem does NOT happen on any non-Retina iMacs that we tested on.

              - This issue happens when the iMac resolution is set to its default resolution of 4096x2034 (this shows up as "Default For Display" in the Displays System Preference).

              - The secondary display could be any variety of different Viewsonic monitors that we have tested on (Model VS14880, Model VX2433vm, and other models).

              - The secondary display is set to is default reslution of 1920x1080.

              - The secondary display is aligned with the top edge of the primary display.

              - The secondary display is connected via a Mini DisplayPort to DVI cable. Tested with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable, and same problem occurs.

              - The problem occurs whether the secondary display is on the left or the right.

              - The problem ONLY happens when the external monitor is set in the Displays system preference as the SECONDARY DISPLAY. If we drag the menu bar to the external monitor to make the external monitor the primary display, and make the iMac 4k the secondary display, the problem does NOT happen on the iMac 4k. So, in other words, the problem NEVER occurs on the iMac 4K display at all, whether or not the iMac is set as the primary or the secondary display.

              - I actually don't think we tried testing the problem by keeping the iMac Retina 4K as the primary display, but lowering the iMac's resolution to lower than its default 4096x2034. We will test that and see what happens, and will get back to you on this.

Our workaround for now is to set the external Viewsonic monitor as our primary display.

Hope this is enough information to help you troubleshoot this bug!

              Best,

              Scott
