I can't find any way to show the Drop Down Calendar (on a date field on a layout with Drop Down Calendar marked of course) with the help of a script.
What have I missed?
In case I did not make it clear once you uncheck this option. Any script step such as Go to Field would open the calendar.
You might want to try the script step
"Go to field".
I can't remember if this will activate the drop down calander or not.
On the inspector just below where you create the drop down calendar. There is an option to: include icon to show or hide calendar. Leave this unchecked and when you enter the field the drop down calendar will display.
Yeah, go to field will work.
But the drop-down calendar is, and always was, pitiful to say the less.
I don't understand how such a bad piece of ... has been adopted and spread along the whole range of IT products for years, including Filemaker.
It's an insult to logic and user interface principles.
It's worth investing into creating a popover that will bring you to the date you need with 3 clicks in 95% of the cases.
Thanks for the answers!
The thing is that with the icon shown, there is no way to show the Drop Down Calendar (DDC) from a script. The only way is to actually use your mouse and click on the icon.
Well, as you may know, Filemaker is the application of workarounds, and there is a workaround here as well (the same with drop down lists); Lock the field with the DDC from editing and place a non-locked version of the field behind the other one. That way the user sees the nice icon, and may click on the entire field to enter the dropdown (as it should be in most cases, if you ask me).
siplus; A DDC is the current choice for the public. It's maybe not the best solution, but for a normal non-geeky person I think it's the easiest and most intuituve. I would like to see your choice of preference though.

Here you are.
It's in a popover but you can detach it to a separate window.
I agree, that is a much better solution. Takes up more space though, but it's worth it!
I have made a similar solution for choosing time.
How do you 'detach' a popover?
You open a new floating document window of the same size and go to a layout which has the same design and the same buttons on it
OK. Thanks. Duplicating what's in the popover as a "modal" (?) window.
I do something similar with a numeric keypad.
Once you detach it, you can zoom in/out.
At 75% it's just right on a Retina.
That is nice, Siplus! You ought to put that on Modular FileMaker. That'd take the FileMaker world by storm!
