      Description

The Client is sitting locally on his Mac Mini, with two screens connected, Samsung S27E650.

The Client has FileMaker Pro and Google Chrome, Gmail (Browser based) open.

The Client is downloading a specific file from one of our many FM-Databases to his desktop.

The Client renames the file, and drags the file from the desktop, across the open FileMaker windows on screen 1, to attach the file into Gmail, when Suddenly FileMaker crashes, and he now has to open the databases again.

The Client has experienced the crash up to 10 times, within the last two weeks.

I have attached a bunch of crash reports, for possible diagnostic / workaround.

      How to replicate

It is intermittent fault, you can't, really.

      Workaround

I will try re-installing FileMaker Pro on the Clients machine.

Thank you for your post and crash reports.

I noticed the crashed thread (thread 0) in all of the crash reports are almost identical.  The crash report appears to be dragging to a field.  When dragging across the FileMaker window, are you aware if you are passing over a field?  Or, do you notice if you are on a specific layout when the crash occurs?

            Hello TSGal

I am not aware of the full scale of the problem.

The client experiencing problems telling me, he are having different layouts (All Classic layout), with a lot of different fields on the layout, a mix of Text-, Number-, Date-, Container- & Calculation-fields etc.

From the Crash Report, I can tell, as you also mention, the client is dragging the attachment over a specific FileMaker layout.. Although I'm not aware of the client might 'Drop' the specific attachment because of losing mouse grip or on purpose, will return with further information ASAP.

            Best regards

            CR

              Thank you for your response!

I believe TSGal is on the right path here. Most likely the file is being dragged over a field (which may be damaged to some extent) that is causing the crash. The Classic Layout has also been deprecated. For testing purposes, you might create a new layout (or duplicate the existing one) using a different theme.

We look forward to your response and further information!

                Hello TSGal and TSPigeon:

I tried re-installing FileMaker Pro 13.0v5 on the Client's machine, but without removing the preference file.

The exact same problem occurred once again.

                - See attached crash report.

I then re-installed FileMaker Pro 13.0v5 on the Client's machine once more, and removed the preference file, according to FM's own guide:

Uninstalling FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Pro Advanced | FileMaker

I have not heard anything from the client, yet.

I could try creating a new layout, with a changed design, instead of Classic, which is somewhat deprecated.

                - I'll keep you posted.

                  TSGal and TSPigeon

As mentioned earlier, I tried re-installing FileMaker Pro 13.0v5 on the Client's machine, and even removed the preference file.

The Client have had some time with the new installation of FM, and is reportedly still experiencing the issue.

Although, as expected, the client admitted dropping the desired e-mail attachment into the FileMaker Invoice layout, Classic Theme which makes FM Crash.

I guess there's nothing more to this case, except telling the Client to be a bit more careful when creating e-mail attachments.

That said, we do have FM14 ready to be installed, although I haven't had the time myself to reproduce or test the specific issue and behavior.

So, my last thing, any questions?
