Just a few hours ago I wrote a few friends to not install the update before it is not checked if the new PDF engine is better or worse.
You may want to reinstall FM 14.0.5.
Thank you for your post!
It looks like this issue was reported in FileMaker Pro 15, which uses the same "New PDF Engine": FileMaker 15 is creating damaged PDF files
I am sending you a private message requesting information. I will also update the report and let you know when we have further information.
I’ve received the notification that you’ll be sending me a private message twice, but no private message as of yet. I did take 3 screen grabs concerning my issue which were attached to the forum post. Here they are in sequential order:
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.
I just installed 14.0.6 64-bit on Windows 7 .
I tried Save/Send Records as > PDF... and it worked. I wonder if that could depend on the OS ? In the link you provided the OP is running on OS X.
My test was performed on Bonsai Gardens, one of the files coming with FTS 14 Advanced.
Still in Bonsai Garders, in Layout Line_Item_Invoices I went to Preview and did Save as PDF. Again it worked.
Then yes, looks like it's OK on Windows. For once it works better on Windows .
I have the same issue Mac OS 10.11.5
I recently updated to 184.108.40.2062 and just noticed that I am having the same problem as well.
I have several scripts that save records as a PDF and then attach them to an outgoing email message. The PDF is created but when I try to preview it using Quick View in the Finder, I get just a popup showing just the document icon and name instead of the expected preview of the PDF content. When I attempy to open the PDF in Acrobat, I get a dialog stating that the document is damaged and cannot be opened.
My workaround for now is to forego the script and manually print to a PDF file. I am going to downgrade back to 14.05.505 and see if that helps.
I am running MacOS 10.11.5 (El Capitan) on a iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 and 16GB of RAM
Likewise, the go-around solution I'm using successfully is print to pdf in the print dialog box. I tried re-installing 14.05.505, but when I did, the create pdf button, which worked before in that version, now acts just like the one in the 10.06 upgrade.
user28339 and everyone:
So far it seems to have several potential factors:
1. Incompatible font.
2. Corrupt permissions
3. Font duplicates in the system or font corruption.
4. Issues with the font cache.
I hope this information is of use and I will respond back here when further information is available!
I am using FontExplorer X Pro 5.02 to manage my fonts. i closed all unnecessary fonts and cleaned both the Application Font Cache and System Font Cache using Onyx. Restarted computer.
Still cannot create PDF files using Save as PDF script step or Save Records as PDF. They save but when i open the PDF Get a dialog box that states the document is damaged and cannot be repaired.
If I create the PDF in the Print dialog by selecting "Save as PDF" from the popup menu in the lower left corner of the print dialog, the PDF works correctly.
I went back to 14.0.4 and my print to pdf script works.

What theme are you using on the layout when saving to PDF? Keep in mind that the Classic theme has been deprecated and no longer available in FileMaker Pro 15. If you are using the Classic theme, duplicate the layout, and on the duplicated layout, change the theme to Minimalist or another built-in theme. Does this then work?
