I don't believe this is an option with Set Field by Name. Look into using button bars instead. Or placeholder text in a global repeating field.
Thanks for the suggestion Mike.
I am on v.13 and found the following worked perfectly.
The buttons were set to single step with set field and I found the repetition with the Count function.
No need for a dedicated script. Just change the references on each button. The number field which displays the percentage is now an auto-enter calculation.
No more un-stored calculations and no dedicated scripts.
Your solution is the best as it not only works but corrects my mistake.
Setting the field by name with a variable requires the variable to include the repetition and not with another variable as part of the calculation. Brilliant!
Thanks for your help.
Yes, you can set a repetition field by name.
See attached example.
But you might like the progress bar implemented without setting values in the rep field. Also in the example, enter a value in the "ProgressValue" field.

I like the simplicity and may use it.
Would the conditional formatting be an issue in list view over a wan?
I really don't think so.
There is almost no transfer of client-server data, it's all in the processing power of the client which does the conditional formatting.
