Ever since Iinstalled FM15 I havn't been able to send emails through the SMTP server. I keep getting error code 1506. In my gmail account that I use I have allowed access by less secure applications.
Why isn't it working? Please help!
You could run tcpdump or similar tool to check network traffic.
Maybe smtp server returns an error.
or try MBS Plugin with the SendMail and CURL functions where you get a detailed log of the transfer.
Maybe you see an error message there.
I have tried using Savvy data SMTP Send Mail Interrogation and it says that the connection is refused by the SMTP server. How can that be? It works just fine on FM 14.
From your description, it isn't clear if you're on Mac OR PC and even if FMServer OR FMPro.
This issue report occurs on Mac AND PC:
Send Mail [Send via SMTP] with SSL Error
Does it meet your experiences?
I'm on FMPro and PC. I'm also using a gmail account as SMTP. My problem doesn't seem to be with the SSL though. It just says: 1506 Email(s) could not be sent successfully.
I'm still not sure if this isn't connected to the issue I described above.
If you have a FMP14 at hand or would consider to install a FMP14 Demo Version, you could figure out if this is a FM15-only issue.
Another test would be to set same smtp parameters with a Mail application to test.
This will help to narrow down any possible causes of this failure
Ahhhh... Gmail. Well, Gmail has a lot of different settings to accommodate their big email system that scans through all of your emails for marketing purposes. I sure hope you have considered such use and the lack of privacy your company has using gmail as a mail service. But that aside, Google has a number of different settings on security including multi factor authentications and application specific passwords. You probably are going to need to generate an application specific password. As the mail programs advance including FM, Google looks at them differently and will make higher security requirements. Or you can lower your Gmail security from the Google settings too.
This is doubtful an FM issue, it is most likely a Google security configuration issue. It could be that your old version of FM has been validated and or has its application specific password and your new one doesn't and the old one will not work on the new one, it will need reissued for that application.
I would encourage you to investigate using a different SMTP server that does not using your business email for marketing purposes. Its one thing to use Gmail for personal use if you don't have a personal problem with privacy, but it really is another thing to run business emails through gmail's marketing scans.
This meets my experiences. I used to use a dedicated gmail-Account solely for send emails via SMTP for the SW-Activation process (adress AND PersistentID).
With FM15, this SSL-Error occurred.
About the same time, I frequently get security warnings by google that someone else might use my email account.

Where do you use the send Email script? On your own devices or with a solution you deploy to customers?
With Schamblee 's hint you probably need to confirm every device with a verification code.
