Is anyone aware of how to script a Runtime's, exe's shortcut onto the desktop?
I would recommend using an installer to install your runtime and to create the shortcut. Inno is one of the best free Windows Installers Inno Setup . I googled free install for Macs, but maybe some other users could recommend a good free installer for Macs.
An installer is definitely the way to go to make this easy AND to give your users a nice streamlined installation experience.
If you do want to attempt creating your own shortcut, here's the specification for the LNK format:
I second Inno Setup for Windows... for Mac, the PackageMaker is simple and effective.
Thank you all. I'll investigate these. Re. the 'PackageMaker' I've not been able to find it on my Mac or, obviously downloadable. Is this within an OSX Developer Kit with a specific name? And can it be installed in isolation, ie. avoiding a whole new OS (I've been temporarily warned off the new OSX until its bugs are sorted).
If I remember correctly, PackageMaker is available via the Apple developer dowloads, but I found a link here:
PackageMaker for Mac
it's just an app, so it can be installed on various OS's. The version I've been running on my Mac has been there for quite some time and although I have not tested it with the beta of Sierra, I can't see any reason why it would not work.
