I would assume that the Classic Theme can't be deleted in order to deal with any solution migrated from a version prior to FM12. Means, you will need this theme in the future whenever you want to open OR convert any .fp7 File.
I'm pretty sure you can delete CSS-Resources in the package but I recommend to backup in case you need it later.
I also assume that every FM-Update would install the Classic Theme package again.
All Themes that are within brackets can not be deleted. That as all parts of FileMaker works. I recommend you to switch to Minimalist theme to start of with before you create your own. Then I always use Chiyoko´s DesignPalette to produce my first theme for my solution
yes I can understand that, but I only really want to delete it from the file; any other theme can be deleted.
What I was thinking is to delete the theme from under the app directory, that may then allow deleting it from the file.
If classic is then re-instated under the .app path, that's fine.
In FM12 we could find themes in FM-folder and play around with. From my experience, that is not a good way when FM release a update. Good that we can delete unused themes, but I kind of understand why we can't delete the classic theme since there always have to be at least on theme in your file.
yes, I am somewhat reluctant to touch the .app directory , but why [classic] can't be deleted from the file is inconsistent.
A new file and layout in FM15 can not be configured with classic, classic is not even in the Themes list.
It is only if the file has been 'touched' by classic ( either a conversion , or even as simple as pasting in a text object from a classic layout in a converted file.
Just did it then. New fm15 file (A).
Convert a fm7 file to fmp12 format
copy a text label into the new empty file (A), and [classic] becomes listed under Manage>Themes
and can't be deleted
It is not listed under Change Theme in layout mode however.
That is good if the Classic Theme does not exist from the beginning if you create a new file in FM15.
I read a long article a while back on what steps to do when you convert files from fp7 to fmp12 format. One of the first steps where to change theme on all layouts to Minimalist.
I have the same question. Would love to fully remove Classic thru the theme management window but the Delete button is disabled. Classic is not being used by any layouts but Im wondering if there’s a downside to having it still listed in theme management. Does anyone know?
If you dont use it, it is not making any bad performance on your file
Ok, thanks-- I'll try to ignore that its there then.
If it is defined in the file, then it has to have code that is referenced/loaded/downloaded, and that is a performance issue at some level.
It is almost certainly, insignificant, and probably immeasurable. But that is not the point.
Given that ALL other [default] themes can be deleted, but [classic] can not, that is an inconsistent behaviour, and to my mind, a bug; or at least a mildly irritating Drosophila.
Since the Classic Theme seems to be a essential part of the .fp7 Migration process, it must not to be deleted.
You will need it every time you want to open a FM11 and older file with a current FM Version.
The issue is not being able to delete it from a FILE, not FileMaker app itself.
If it is not used by file, it is redundant.
ANY other unused theme can be deleted from a file.
