    Server Filemaker 15

      Hello Filemaker Community,

At first we just bought the Filemaker 15 for 5 users.

We have a questions towards the server, we tried to run the server on a Windows 10 Home Desktop computer, with this we have some issues, I wonder does this even work?

I am considering to buy an Mac Mini and let the server run on that from our office, my question is, is that possible? And could the server run on the Mac Mini as well as one of us can do other work with the Mac Mini?

That is all for now, looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

          Thank you for your post.

FileMaker Server 15 will not run under Windows 10.  On the Windows platform, FileMaker Server 15 will run under Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012.  Please see Knowledge Base Article #15663 for the system requirements:

System Requirements for FileMaker Server 15 | FileMaker

FileMaker Server 15 will run on a Mac Mini, as long as the Mac Mini is running under Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan).  It is highly recommended that FileMaker Server 15 be on its own machine as it requires a lot of processing time.  Having FileMaker Pro on the same machine would slow FileMaker Server and all clients connected to FileMaker Server.

Thank you for your quick response.

All right perfect, that we are going to run Filemaker Server 15, from our office won't be a issue, right? We will be able to connect to it from the outside the network, after opening the ports?

Also will be the smallest Mac Mini enough? Or which one should we consider?

            Thank you in advance

The smallest Mac Mini should be fine, but you will need to increase the memory to a minimum of 8 GB (as per the System Requirements).

Yes, you will be able to connect to FileMaker Sever outside the network.  For a listing of ports that need to be opened, see Knowledge Base Article #14402:

Ports used by FileMaker Server | FileMaker

I also recommend  reading Knowledge Base Article #13621 about sharing solutions outside the local network.

Possibly relevant is Knowledge Base Article #9770 about Port Forwarding.  It may not apply, but whoever sets up the server may find it useful.
