when copying an email address and pasting it into a text field, the hyperlink is carried with it. Is there a way to strip the hyperlink from the receiving field?
Can you show a couple examples of the type of hyperlink you are putting in the field?
this is an firstname.lastname@example.org example.
Copying this to an FM text field brings the hyperlink detail with it.
During data entry, you can use "Paste Text Only" as opposed to standard "Paste". If instead you want to set a specific field to always strip the formatting, then set an "Auto-enter Calculation replaces existing value" with the function "TextFormatRemove ( text )".
'paste text only' works! Thank you.
Can you please help me with the 'always strip' for a specific field? Can't find the auto-enter option nor the TextFormatRemove function. This would be the preferable solution.
I did create a script trigger to execute on entry to appropriate fields to 'paste text only' if the field is empty
I'm on FM13 if that makes a difference in finding the 'TextFormatRemove' function.
perhaps these may assist?
the function originated in FM 8:
You don't need a script to do this. You set the field into which you will paste the email address with an auto enter calc, with the Do Not Replace existing content unchecked—because the whole purpose is to replace the pasted content with the calculated version of itself. Use the calc TextFormatRemove ( self ). The Self function refers to any data that is entered into the field; any entry or editing of field content will trigger the auto enter calc.
You can use this technique with more complex calcs to strip unwanted spaces and carriage returns, non-standard or disallowed field content, to standardise formatting, and all manner of content control tasks.
Yes! this is basically the Method 1 in the kb article referenced above.
You have enhanced the answer with the use of TextFormatRemove(Self) so the function works on whichever field gets this as an auto-enter!! Well done, keywords!
I'm good to go !
Thanks to all
