Is there a way of saving a name & number in a FMGO db straight to contacts on the iPad?
or via iCloud.?
You can research on CloudKit Web Services as they have access to Contacts.
You should be able to generate and email a vcard, but then you would need to open it from an email.
this is probably sufficient for me as its only personal use, thanks.
As far as I remember XML export is not supported in iOS, but there are a few custom functions which assemble vcards as text and you can export it as a text file with a vcard extension.
I could not find the documentation on what can be exported with FMGo, but this help topic may help OP:
update, duh - on the latest FMGo 15 on miPhone ....
Export Setup (File Type):
Comma-separated (.csv)dBase (.dbf)Excel Workbook (.xlsx)HTML (.htm)Merge (.mer) - this is CSV with headersTab-separated (.tab)
Excel Workbook (.xlsx)
Merge (.mer) - this is CSV with headers
And Export Field Contents is FMGo compatible:
"in theory" could be calculated vCard or xml or any text
So you can base64 an assembled vcard into a container field, I suppose. The only issue is how to open it in contacts without an extra step of emailing to yourself.
in the next 'steps' for Export (on iOS) you have the option to (Select Destination) that may have several options based on your apps on the device.
There are these options as well:
Send To (folder)
Open In (where some of the above apps are listed)
Save to FileMaker Go
