Just to add to this... they work on my laptop (running 14.0.5) and not my Imac (running 14.0.6). Filemaker 14.
Must be the problem?
in 14.0.6 the PDF engine was changed to the new one used in 15. It was discovered that in some circumstances the generated PDF files could not be opened by Acrobat. Please see Re: PDFs will not print. 14.0.6 and 184.108.40.206
That would have to do with the fonts used. To my best knowledge, there are other threads on the subject on this forum.
this is really bad, pdfs won't export properly unless the print layouts are in a standard theme that comes with filemaker.
If you try and either make your own or make edits to an existing theme you get an incomplete PDF that when you try to open it says its damaged or can't be recognized.
This is devastating....
any ideas? Can;t make all clients upgrade to 15... if that would even solve it?
The only hope I have left it to remove all save as pdf steps from scipts and make the user chose print or save as PDF from print dialog, I think that works..
Search this Discussion there are lost of threads on pdf issues.
Are you using Acrobat .... DC ? If not, considering using it.
thanks, it seems to be related to patricular fonts that the company I am working with use, i'm trying to downgrade to an earlier version of 14 to see if that will help.. not so easy to do..
The question still stands, ..... are you using Acrobat DC ?
i try to open the pdfs in preview, i can try acrobat but it does look like they are not exporting properly, as you can't even preview them (space bar on a mac I mean).
tried to downgrade to 14.0.5 but now it just crashes when you try to export a pdf,
It seems that the pdf's maybe corrupted. If you do not have have Acrobat DC installed, consider installing it.
thank you, its a filemaker problem though. can't open the pdfs in any program. its becuase the new version of filemaker 14 won't recognise a particular font. not much I can do really at this point other that hope clients have 13.
