What version of FileMaker are you using? (The wizard differs with the version in some cases)
Can you describe what you want in just a bit more detail?
I can read your post in different ways.
Do you want to limit the report to only certain records?
Do you want to group the records by a certain value?
Do you want only one row of data--possibly summary data for each such group or list all the records that make up each group with a "sub head" or "sub footer" above/below the group?
Or something else?
Sorry.. I have explained in detail here. The sql queries are just for understanding.
I want to limit the report to only certain records.
For eg, the reports out put is like Select * from Tbl.
I want the report only certain records (that has value as "Submitted" in the column Status)
Select * from tbl where status = "Submitted"
How do I achieve this?

Perform a find for the records that you want in your report. This can be scripted to happen automatically via the OnLayoutEnter script trigger if the criteria is always the same and you want it to happen every time you pull up the report layout.
Enter Find Mode --> clear the pause check box
Set field [YourTable::Status ; "Submitted" ]
Set Error Capture [on]
Your "select *" analogy is very apt for how a layout's table occurrence works. I've used that analogy myself when explaining how this works to folks that are used to working with other DB systems that are strictly SQL.
The performed find or other scripted or user actions that manipulate the table occurrence's found set supply the "WHERE" functionality and Sort Records provides the "order by clause". In addition, Omit Records can reproduce a "Fetch First" type result after sorting.
FileMaker natively uses finds and sorts instead of SELECT, WHERE & ORDER BY. start here:
