Is there a get function that will allow me to determine the max y axis and x axis scale value for a given chart? Or some other approach to get the max scale value?
Playing around with a chart, I don't see a way to get the max scale value. The chart is generated in real time when the user initiates the chart, and the max value seems to always be the next factor of 10 up based on the data in the chart.
You can set the max and min values on your own if you wish. That would give you control. If you wanted to do that, you'd just have to find the largest number in your set and let that be the max or find the next number divisible by 10 or 100 or something.
Do you know what that calculation would look like? How does FM determine when not to start the min value at 0?
I'm betting the chart always starts at 0 unless you specifically set the min to be something else
you set the min and max scale values in one of the chart sections. I forget which at the exact moment. Yiu can out any value in. A calc. A global field or variable. A field
You set min, max in the chart section under Y axis. I had the chart set to auto and when I plotted to values, 0.008 and 0.0095, FM set the min to 0.0075 and .01. Do you know how it decides when to start at something other than 0?
does this document (and sample file) help?

& for those looking for Chart info in FM15 help:
Thanks for the references, is there any material how I might capture the value of the y axis max scale when in auto mode?
Auto is used when you don't care the scale.
It is interesting challenge guessing how FM calculate it, but you can't get answer without source code
Okay thanks, won't waste time going down that road.
If this is related to your earlier thread on Aligning Two Overlapped Charts ... might I (re)suggest that you try gathering your data for both charts into variables, then create common axes (and charts) based on those?
The problem is keeping the axis-es in sync, One chart is a x-y chart and the other is a line chart. The line chart does not have an option to manually select min or max x axis values. The charts are created using delimited data series. Is there something I'm missing about using variables, that allows me to sync up the axis-es.
Sorry I can't be of more help; I'm sort of pulling at strings here myself. I guess my idea was to use a common Y-Axis range for both charts by merging the two data series, thereby forcing FileMaker to use the same min/max for both charts.
Thanks, that is more or less the approach I'm taking. Grabbing the max value of the two data sets and using it as the max Y scale for both graphs.
