Is there a script trigger firing when you change records, something that activates this field? If so, there's the 'select/perform' option on many script steps. This option starts playing movies, plays audio files, etc. (I'm not 100% sure that this would also open a PDF with an external app, but maybe.)
This issue goes way back before 15. I cannot duplicate the problem on any of our machines except one new box with windows ten
The file is server based and all of our machines will allow you to scroll to a record and view a PDF in the container field except on this one new machine, every time to scroll to a record with a PDF in the container field, it will launch the PDF in adobe. Then you have to close the adobe and when you do, the file is no longer view able until you scroll to another record then come back, whereupon it will launch it again
Just a long shot, but container PDF visualization etc is enabled thru plugins for the browser IIRC. If this is the ONLY machine running Windows 10, then I would guess that it is configured for PDF access differently OR that Windows 10 handles PDFs differently (I don't us it so I cannot test). You might be able to "fix" this by installing a different PDF viewer / plugin on the machine.
Tried re installing the PDF viewer. No help, still repeats the same. I had this issue back as far as 12 and it was solved by making a change to settings in internet explorer but I can't remember what we did to make it happen.
Anyone else out there experiencing this issue
I seem to recall reading instructions to remove an adobe plug in from the web browser in the past. Don't know if it will work here with v15.
Here is an update. If anyone has experience with this please let me know how you have handled it
I installed FMP 15 latest update 64 bit on a new PC running windows 10 64 bit. I installed 2013 office 64 bit
I installed Adobe Acrobat XI 64 bit. I opened a file with a container field set as interactive PDF content. As soon as I navigate to a record with a PDF in the field, it automatically launches Adobe Acrobat and the file that was in the field.
If I uninstall everything and reinstall as 32 bit the file works as expected. IE, it will load the PDF tools in the container field without leaving FMP and launching Adobe Acrobat. If I leave the operating system as 64 bit it also works as expected. It is only when I run the apps at 64 bit that it screws up. Does anyone know why this is happening
Are you sure Acrobat XI is 64 bit? If I recall correctly there is no 64bit Acrobat and Reader.
Try using Acrobat Reader DC. This is 32 bit and works on 64bit OS and FM.
The fix is the following:
Operating system in window 7 or 10 can be 64 bit
Filemaker Pro 15 and all programs that interact with Filemaker Pro 15 must be installed as 32 bit.
In addition to having the full Adobe Acrobat XI program installed, you must also install Adobe Reader XI. Even though you will be using your full Adobe XI program, for some reason, it will still launch the PDF if the reader is not also installed. This was a work around given to me by FMP support. They are aware of the bug and are currently working on it.
Any news on this issue? It's plaguing some of our users...
