The usage guidelines state that the FileMaker Server 15 development license cannot be used on third party hardware. Is AWS considered third party if I'm paying for the instance? Will my license key work?
I was discussing this with FMI yesterday and it seems you are correct. For testing purposes it was recommended I setup an on demand, hourly AWS instance which comes with a 15 day free trial license of FileMaker Cloud.
FileMaker Server and FileMaker Cloud are two different products. You can, of course, use your FM Server developer license on a Windows EC2 instance in AWS. I have found that it runs on an instance that is in the free tier for AWS account, if you have a new account in the first year.
Thanks Mike, good point, I was thinking of it as being identical to FileMaker Server. However this video FileMaker Cloud: Bring existing annual license via BYOL to AWS - YouTube seems to suggest that at least some FileMaker Server license keys should convert without any fuss. I'll give it a whirl.
Update: My development license key did not convert.
I'm optimistic FileMaker will eventually make a development license for Amazon Cloud part of the developer subscription.
I hope so....
I'm no longer so optimistic after reading over the answer to this question found on the faq page; Why would I want to use FileMaker Cloud hourly?

Guess we are just going to have to sip it and plan for the additional expense.
I have made a feature request for FileMaker Cloud for Developers. Please upvote.
