What do you mean by everything disappears? You can't see the data anymore or the fields and labels disappear as well?
Is there conditional formatting or a Hide condition applied to the fields? Can you post a screenshot of the layout in Layout mode (also in Browse mode before and after the field disappearing)?
Also, what is the relationship between the table occurrence for the portal and the base layout table occurrence?
I doubt we can help you without first getting a detailed description of the layout design, the relationships used for any related data and portals as well as any portal filters used. A Hide Object When condition could also make objects disappear like this if they reference that field and evaluate as True when you select that given value.
Also make sure if record changes being committed (click a blank area of the layout as a test) makes your layout objects re-appear as this can be something easily handled via a script trigger on your option field.
Thanks for your comments. I am sorry if I did not make it clear.
Here is the section of the portal where I have made one entry:
As soon as I select "yes" under "personal best" and commit the record it changes to this:
The other option buttons for "Second fastest" and "third fastest" use the same value list and work fine. I have set all the fields to auto hide if there is no record
My puzzle is why this only happens when I select that one particular option. Everything else remains the same. I am very much learning Filemaker and it is not a complicated layout. In case it helps, this is a screenshot of the complete layout without selecting the option button. As soon as I select the "yes" option of "personal best"all the fields and the light grey area disappear.
I hope this helps you to help me. Many thanks. Roger
Thanks for the screenshots, Roger,
Is there a Hide Object When condition set on the portal? (Look in the Inspector, under the Data tab, Behavior block.)
Edit: On the portal itself, not on the fields within the portal.
That's it. Yippee. I had inadvertently applied the hide object to the whole portal as well as the individual fields. Thank you so much for the help. This has been driving me mad. I really appreciate it.
Glad we were able to help. We've all been there.
