When you do a find you could set a value in the found records, e.g. highlight = 1 and use conditional formatting on those fields to highlight when highlight = 1. Remember to clear the highlighted records when you no longer want to highlight.
Are You using repeating fields? If so, set a conditional formatting that changes field-background/-fill if the date of this field is >= start and <= end
Create a extra field that you call Color. When you create your Course you add a Random value to this field. Random is form 0-1 numeric value

Then on your layout you use Conditional Formatting using a several formular
Color (your new field) > 0,95 then choose a color that you like
Color (your new field) > 0,90 then choose a color that you like
Color (your new field) > 0,85 then choose a color that you like
Color (your new field) > 0,05 then choose a color that you like
This will give you a specific color for a course and then you can use the same Conditional Formatting for the course lessons. What you then will see is that Course match Lesson and it will be easier for you to follow

A bit detailed, the formula is
Self >= start date and Self <= end date
and usable for non-repeating field also.
Thanks user19752! All I needed to do was add conditional formatting to the fields using your suggestion.
