Are you using an icon that came with FileMaker or one that was added?
Is this a list view layout? If so, is the "Delineate.." option selected in layout setup? If so, clear that check box and see if it makes any difference.

I would check the styles on your different states. I did some playing around with this and that was the only way I could get it to break in a simular way.
This is a field with using the Pop-Up Menu control style, not a Popover button, just to clarify. It is a list view layout, and unchecking Delineate didn't fix it.
I just checked all the styles, and as it turns out, one state didn't have a line set around the field. (set to None, not 0) I fixed that and saved the style, and it fixed it! Thank you!
Which OS are you using? What Layout theme?
It's possible that we might not be able to replicate due to one of those being different from your set up.
The body is blue, and
Do you mean the layout body is blue or did you mean that you specified a blue fill color with "pop up menu" selected in the upper drop down on the inspector's appearance tab?
OS = Mac running OS X El Capitan
I specified blue fill color with "pop up menu".
Because it's a custom theme, I figured you couldn't replicate it exactly. I asked because it had never happened before using this theme. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I overlooked before deciding it was a FileMaker issue or a custom theme issue.
How did you create that custom theme?
If you used the inspector, this is a potential bug to report. If not, it may be something in how you created the file used as your custom theme.
I did indeed use the inspector. I'll try a few more times on a couple different layouts & fields. Maybe it's a layout problem?
