Webdirect: how can I export a .csv file that automatically opens correctly in Excel?

    andrewblackwell

My client is running on WebDirect, and would like to export records into Excel. Naturally, I would like to make the process as smooth as possible for the client, meaning that the generated document can be opened in Excel by double-clicking on it.

Given that WebDirect does not support Excel exports, I am trying to solve it with the "Export Records" script step, setting the file format to ".csv". The problem here is that the resulting file, when double-clicked, opens all the fields in one column in Excel, and the only way of opening it correctly in Excel is via a more cumbersome data import step (which I'm trying to avoid here).

I have tried the following steps, none of which have worked:

      • packing all the fields in a calculation and separating them with semicolons
      • packing the contents of individual fields in ""
      • exporting in different formats (tab, mer)

Does anybody have any solution or workaround to this conundrum? Without plugin, if possible, but also interested in plugin-based solutions if need be.

      Thanks for any help!
