-Could you please verify if you are using FileMaker Server 15 or FileMaker Server 12 Advanced?
-What version of FileMaker Pro 14 is installed and working? (ie. 14.0.4)
*Connection failed is usually a port 5003 error, but FileMaker Pro 15 is unable to access FileMaker Server 12 (if this were the case).

Thanks for your response. I'm using FMS 15 Advanced 15.xx, most recent update. The PC is running FMP 14.06. This machine has been accessing the same server since v 12.
I suspect something specific to this particular PC but I can't find anything obvious. Why can it connect with version 14 and not 15? weird.
I had to go to FM for this one. they are baffled as well... to be continued.
I'm sure they'll ask you to do it, but in case not: have you tried with another Windows user account on that rogue box? If it works with a different user profile then it may point to something in the profile.
Yes, thanks, did that. FM support had me for a rebuild of the Filemaker folder in AppData... didn't work. they continue to investigate.
Do you have the firewall enabled on that machine? It sounds like a port being blocked.
Yes, we have a firewall but port 5003 is open. I even disabled EndPoint completely to test. I also checked certificates.. no go.
