Yes, but maybe it would be easier to use a popover instead?
To answer the specific question, clicking a button can open a new window, select a layout, create a new record and then exit.
The user would fill out the fields in the new window and close it. You might need a submit button to both close the window and update your first window to show the newly added record.
How can I set up this popover? Could you describe it step by step?
popovers came with FileMaker 13 - if You are running an older version, You are out of luck
to create a popover, just press in layout-mode on the button tool -> it becomes the 'pop-opver' tool. To get an idea, You can check out the invoice starter-solution
I have FM Pro 15 Advanced. I just don't know how to use this popover to solve my problem...
instead of creating a new window, You could eventually open a popover with the needed fields - depends on You needs, a new windows leaves the old window as it is...
I have no idea what You mean with "because I don't have place to describe year"
I removed field "year" from my body part because this is already when I'm grouping records "when sorted by year".
YEAR (merge field)
ID CUSTOMER(fk) YEAR January February March ... December
This is a model of my report.
Now when I create a new record and use popover with fields I has to look for it, because this report is sorted by year descending, so new record with empty YEAR field goes to the end. So I'm looking for a solution to do it as simple as possible.
then, a popover could be the solution... a popover shows dependent of asum a summary part
- creates a new record
- shows the popover with needed fields
- lets the user enter the data
the popover has a button named 'done', closes the popover ('falls back to Your summary layout')' sorts (if needed)
