you're right at the door - If ( isempty(oneThing); secondThing; oneThing )
I just realized, the Field would have to be a Calculation so I need 3 Fields.
Company calculation field that uses the If and IsEmpty statement
And then the Personal Company and the Company::company fields to be placed inside.
I think three - the field you want to use/show; and the two fields that it would be based on.
To your question..."yes".....but:
Rather than throw a third field in the mix, you might instead consider a script.
Using just your two fields...have a script check
If ( IsEmpty(PersonCo))
SetField (PersonCo ; Company::Company)
Then launch that script on modification of Personal Company (PersonCo) or other appropriate place.
A bit more behind the scenes if you will...but it now allows you to edit the field afterwards if you wish, whereas you cannot edit it as a calculation field.
Just an option...
You could do the same thing simply as an Autoenter, replacing field contents as well...
Good afternoon ezeitgeist,
I hope your day is going well. I like the suggestion made by Eric Twiname. I would choose the auto enter calculation option he mentioned, so that it is layout independent. Have a great day!
Adding to the suggestion for auto-enter.
HEre's a an auto-enter calc you might use:
If ( IsEmpty ( Self ) ; Company::company ; self )
