    ODBC problem

    user26279

I’m trying to connect Filemaker server 15 (developer version) to SQL Server 2008 SP4 without any luck.

Filemaker server 15 is running in virtual Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2008 SP4 in Windows Server 2008 R2. Filemaker 14 Pro Advanced is used in Windows 10 laptop.

I have tried drivers from Windows 2012 R2 (Native client and SQL Server), Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Version 11.00.2100 (64bit) etc. System DNS driver connection test (Test Data Source) reports Conectivity OK but Filemaker server databases can’t connect to external sql server data. When I open remote filemaker database there is an additional box asking for user name and password for the ODBC data source (User name and Passoword)…?

Is there a working ODBC driver for our setup? SQL Server 2008 SP4 is not listed as certified data source for Filemaker Server 15 http://www.filemaker.com/support/technologies/sql.html .And my workstation is currently using older Filemaker 14 Advanced client.

By the way SQL database connection to the same SQL 2008 SP4 is working from old Filemaker server 2009/Windows 2003 SP2 –box without any problems (SQL driver 2000.86.3959.00/SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 03.86.3959).

      Thank you for any help!

Have you installed the right 32/64-bit ODBC-driver?

Yes I have tried Windows download for Filemaker Server 15.0.2 64-bit drivers (Filemaker ODBC Driver (64b-bit) 15.0.6.0).

            My server is 15.0.2.206.

If I try to connect to the host : "There was a problem connecting to the host".

            Test Connection says:

Attempting to connect to database on host x.x.x.x

Filemaker Failed to connect to listener (3)

            Test failed

I have had cases where the Test Connection does not work, but when I put a ESS table in my relationship graph and start using that in a new layout it works just great. Have you tried that?

With Filemaker ODBC Driver (64b-bit) 15.0.6.0 installed I can't define sql server database information. So I must leave System DNS name without database information and just close ODBC data source Administrator.

In Filemaker Pro Relationship graph “Add Table” “Add ODBC datasource” shows that ODBC DSN Data source but because both database and login information is missing in Filemaker server Filemaker Pro now asks login information. If I supply login information I get error "ODBC Comminication/link error. Please check your network connection and/or database server”.

Result: ODBC System DSN name is available in Filemaker Pro but no connection to database.

You shouldn't be using the FileMaker ODBC driver. You should be using the MS SQL Server ODBC driver. The following is a screenshot from our Dev server. you can see that we're using SQL Server drivers as that's the back end database we're trying to connect to. Once you've configured the DSN then you can add it as a data source in FileMaker.

The FileMaker ODBC driver is only used in circumstances where you want to use FileMaker as an ODBC data source. Not for ESS.

Vesa, non-supported SQL drivers *may* work for using these script steps:

                    Import

                    Execute SQL

Your Mileage (Kilometers) may vary, of course

While not the ESS, it's useful when you can connect.

Now I changed to Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver Version 06.03.9600 (64 bit).

Filemaker server: I can authenticate by username and password and the connection test is ok.

Filemaker 14 Pro: I can add ODBC data source and try to connect to ODBC data source. ODBC connection asks again user name and password.. I hope not with all new users...

                      And the connection works!

                      Thank you for your help!
