# Calculating Overtime

Hello guys? I am new at filemaker and I am trying to come up with a small timetable database for employees. I am facing difficulties in calculating overtime worked by an employee each day. Every employee is suppose to work 8 hours only per day. Now i want to have the overtime field which will store hours of an employee that worked more than 8 hours a day. Any idea on how to do this guys??Thank you

• ###### 1. Re: Calculating Overtime

You create a StartTime and a EndTime field that have format Time. Then you create a Calculated field HoursWorked where the calculation is ( EndTime - StartTime) * 3600. This will give you hours your worker have worked. If you want to know just numbers of Overtime you had a second Calculated field that have formula

Case(

HoursWorked > 8; HoursWorked - 8

)

that will give your number of hours worked overtime

I also recommend you to read the free FileMaker Training Series

Thank you very much, I have the calculated field for hours worked working properly already, I just need the one for overtime

Almost; only off by a factor of 12,960,000

Thank you, that helped but I still have the overtime field which needs to be calculated

• ###### 6. Re: Calculating Overtime

I wrote how you do that above, but here if comes again. A new Calculated field with formula

Case(

HoursWorked > 8; HoursWorked - 8

)

Meaning

If your workers have worked more then 8 hours, then take the worked hours + 8 hours and say Lisa have worked 10,5 hours, then you will have 10,5 - 8 = 2,5 hours
