Use hide object when to make the right hand column header text invisible when it is not needed.
Off the top of my head:
Let ( [
pageNumber = Get ( PageNumber ) ;
recordsThisPage = Get ( RecordCount ) - ( pageNumber - 1 ) * 40
Case ( recordsThisPage < 21 ; 1 ; 0 )
Explanation: You know that you can put up to 40 records on a page (20 lines per column). You want to know if there are at least 21 records on the current page. If you subtract out all the records on previous pages, you're left with what's on this page and future pages. If that number is less than 21, then you're on the last page AND you have enough to fit in the first column. Otherwise, you want to see the second set of headers.
P. S. This is completely untested, so let me know if it actually works.
I had thought in those terms, but if you look closer at the layout, the right and left columns are not the same info. This apparently is not a layout set to print in two columns via layout setup....
The OP said it was.
I stand corrected.
You might consider changing the printer order in print setup to right to left printing instead of top to bottom. Then you'll always be using the header text on both sides any time you pint more than one record.
Here is what I have going on.
As far as the first calculation it worked on the first page, but not on the second page when there were 49 entries.
I'll play more, but using the show/ hide and usingyour calculation is a great start
Ill be working on it more tomorrow and see if I can nail it down.
Each column can contain 20 lines
And don't you use "also resize enclosing part" in slide option?
Okay, so I was not sure why the function Mike gave me worked on page 1 but not page 2.
I started at the first thing I could think of .. which is to make sure that Get(pagenumber) was returning the right information.
I made a field with only that calculation in it, and it returns 0 on both page 1 and page 2 in preview.
Any thoughts on this?
My manager would rather see the extra heading than going left too right. But I appreciate the suggestion
Is the calculation unstored?
Are you viewing the database in Preview mode?
I was viewing in preview..
So here is the set up when I had the field set as TEXT
And when I had it set as Calculation:
I saw on the filemaker page.. that it can return 0 if not in preview mode, but I was for the first screen shot.
And now I get a page number for both pages as 1.
I'm attaching the file to the original post.
