i have an uneven row of fields that i want to line up and be symmetrical to each other. I want them all to be the same size and not have a space between them. Any idea how to do this? I tried looking up in ALIGN but don't see this option.
I'm not sure in which version these tools were introduced, but look for these in the Layout Inspector>Position tab:
To make them the same size, use the Resize option (largest/smallest width, smallest/largest height) – or specify their size using numerical values in the inspector.
To place them without space in between, you need to fiddle (a bit) with the Distribute/vertically option
Note that all the options from the Arrange > Align/Distribute/Resize to sub-menus are also available in the Inspector.
I tend to do this sort of thing with the Duplicate.
If you duplicate the first field and specify the same field name, then MOVE to where you need the second field. the trick is to IMMEDIATELY duplicate as many times as needed the spacing for each one should honor the first spacing as between field 1 and 2. Go back and change the field(s) to the correct ones and your spacing will be as you need.
good tip to point out Beverly. The alignment tools can help, after the fact, and with practice.
Out of all FM tasks, I really do not enjoy building layouts. To add to Beverly's duplicate aligned fields "trick", (in Windows) click-ctrl-shift-drag will duplicate a field and keep it in the same horizontal or vertical "plane" as its parent.
IS IT JUST ME OR DOES THIS FEATURE NOT WORK?
It is you , because that's the wrong feature - compare with the screenshot in the first response.
PS: Please don't use ALLCAPS.
"sliding" only moves the data in the fields if viewed in Preview (or printed). It is not a function of Browse mode
Thank you Beverly for your helpful response.
