Don't think of it this way, a better way is to use an API that supports GET and just use the Insert From URL script step in filemaker, and avoid the webviewer all together.
This way you can calculate a URL from filemaker like:
Set variable [ $url ; "http://www.someAPI.com?code=" & table::countrycode & "&vatnumber=" & table::vatnumber ]
And insert the result of the URL API call into another field:
Insert From URL [ $url ; table::result ]
This will leave the value of table::result with the returned code from the API's web page. Most APIs will return data in JSON, and you can use something like this to parse the JSON code into usable data:
Additionally, free plugins like BaseElements can be used for APIs that require POST.
Thank you for your reply. I have to say that I am not very experienced wrt. such APIs. Do you happen to know some (preferably free) that I could test? Your solution sounds quite promising. I would love to try it.
What exactly do you need to do? Confirm VAT numbers? Calculate VAT tax? I would just google “free VAT API” and see if anything looks like it’s what you need.
Thank you Mike. You made my day. There is indeed a free API that does exactly what I need.
Why didn't I think of this? :-)
