I will temporarily place the full field (not merge) on the layout part where desired. if it does not show anything, then the field is likely blank, or not long enough or formatted (date, format?) incorrectly.
narrow is down in the field, then test the merge field for length (likely ok) and format (as in Inspector).
The fields seem to be empty. Maybe this record was created before you created those fields?
Also check the field properties in 'Manage Database'. Are they correctly defined to enter the creation date and the creation account name?
You are brilliant!!! I never thought of that very simple solution. I was looking at other, more complex issues and so missed the real point.
This is the first time I have used this resource despite being a member for several years but I will certainly use it more and more as future problems arise, as I am sure they will.

Many thanks for your response but Beverly hit the nail on the head. The field was not long enough. My bad. It never occurred to me that this was the case as it has never happened to me before. A very simple solution to a very simple problem.
