It's in closed beta right now. You have to apply and be accepted by Google to be part of early adoption.
I sent in the request. Haven't heard back yet.
Microsoft has recently done something similar with PowerApps
It is funny how on the PowerApps page there's a screen shot showing what appears to be a native range slider. A not so subtle dig at FileMaker perhaps.
The tight lock-in to the MS or Google ecosystem is putting me off trying these things out, but it'll be interesting to see how the two products develop. It's all healthy competition for FIleMaker!
Also, there were rumours a while back that FMI were thinking of changing the name of FileMaker to.... App Maker.
I looked at the PowerApps page and it looks interesting. However, it is not so clear as to whether the app can be made a standalone of a users phone like a GO file or whether you must be connected to a remote server. The idea of creating standalone apps is appealing to me and not tying the user to a cellular connection.
Have you read further and can state whether or not the app can be standalone? Thanks.
Both app makers plus others on the web are really stressing FileMaker and other apps. The design features are awesome but the underlying data structures and links, etc. are explained. FileMaker layout tools would benefit from an update.
I wonder if an iPad could be used for designing these apps? A scaled down FMP that could be designed on an iPad would sell like... !
Thanks. I should have expected Microsoft to deliver a product that is difficult to use and impossible to control. After what MS did to Foxpro which was already a dinosaur, I would expect this product to be canceled in a few years.
