I have a simple report that keeps printing page 1 twice then the remaining page numbers are fine except they are off by 1. i.e. Page 1, Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4, etc. P.S. I don't have a cover page configured.
do you have any sub-summary part(s) and can you post screen shots of the part definition(s) for body (and any other parts that might be relevant?
And please describe the method used to produce those page numbers as there is more than one way to do that.
Ok here we go, but let me apologize in advance for the length of this post!
This is the Layout:
Now for some info before I show parts of the report:
The Top Navigation is will be used in browse mode, but serves no purpose at this time.
The Title Header only prints on the first page.
The Header prints on all subsequent pages to show the ENTITY and TYPE being printed.
The body part has been masked for obvious reasons.
If the Type changes mid page, a new HEADER is printed (Page 42 is an example)
THE ENTITY SUB-SUMMARY is used to trigger a Page Break when a new ENTITY is printed. I have shown this SUB-SUMMARY in green to allow it to show for debugging purposes. Normally this is a thin blank part.
Page 116 (which is actually page 117) is the last page of the ENTITY 1
The next page Page 1 (actually page 118) is the first page of ENTITY 2. At this point the page break is doing what I want.
The next page also Page 1 (actually page 119) repeats the page number.
The next page shows page 2 and increments correctly from there.
Now here are relevant pages of the report:
Report Page 1
Report Page 2 (Note: it prints Page 1 instead of 2)
Report Page 3 (Note: it prints Page 2 instead of 3 but subsequent page continue numbering from here)
Report Page 42 shows a new HEADER mid page:
Report Page 116 (actually 117) is the last page of ENTITY 1
Report Page 1 (actually 118) is the first page of ENTITY 2
Report Page 1 again (actually 119) is the second page of ENTITY 2 (Note: it prints Page 1 instead of 2)
Report Page 2 (actually 120) is the third page of ENTITY 2 (Note: it prints Page 2 instead of 3)
Here are some further findings:
If I check “Page Break before each occurrence”
If I check “Restart page numbers after each occurrence”,
2 page 1’s are created af the beginning of each break.
If I uncheck “Restart page numbers after each occurrence”,
the page numbers are correct (except it doesn’t set page numbers to 1 in subsequent ENTITIES after the first ENTITY. Instead it just continues the page numbers as it should.)
on the other hand,
If I check “Page break after every 1 occurrence”
the page numbers are correct, but it treats the first page like a cover page. But, subsequent ENTITIES don’t have a cover page.
It appears that the “Page Break before each occurrence” is actually triggering a page break before occurrences after the first. Taken literally this check box would perform a page break before the first occurrence as well. However I believe this works as one would expect.
What I think should be done is to add a check box for “Restart page numbers after each occurrence with a cover page”.
The cover page should use the HEADER or if defined the TITLE HEADER, as well as the FOOTER or if defined the TITLE FOOTER and in-between a new section called COVER PAGE BODY.
