Send mail works at the application level and won't work in a browser. You can have it send directly to the SMTP server instead and it'll go. You'll just need to prompt the user for the field (To, Subject, Body) before sending.
By the way, if you want to have multiple attachments or a nice HTML formatted email, you'll have to look for a plugin. I've used MBS, 360Works Email and CNS plugins all very successfully. They seem to work better than the FileMaker Send Mail and have more options. They also are faster. Unless FM plans to update their Send Mail, it really is beneficial to use a plugin instead. For it to work in the browser, you'll need the plugin on the FileMaker Server.
PS: I've you want an inexpensive plugin that sends email, the Base Elements plugin from Goya has no licensing costs.
That's What I was thinking.
I got email working using SMTP but when I was sending via email application nothing happens. So does that mean from FileMaker Direct we cannot send email using "Send via Email Client".
I'm sure I've seen somebody example of sending Mail from FileMaker Direct using "Via E-mail Client".

You can try a script with an "open URL" script step and specify "mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org" and "No Dialogue" option on.
If this works you can add a subject and a body, cc and bcc. The protocol does not support attachments and it is going to be plain text only.
It should open your default email client, but it will not auto send the email.
Good suggestion of another good option, Nicolai!
I do not have WebDirect handy to try it, but I assume it should work since it works in browser.
Thank you for help.
I decided to use SMTP server instead of email application.
