    FM14 Not Responding

    Charlesdh

      Hi,

In the past my copy of FileMaker was working. However, I'm now getting a "Not Responding" problem.

I reinstalled my copy. But problem still  exist.

I attached a copy of my test file to see if someone can test it. Or, see if I have the relation correct. You will see I have 1 record added.

At times when I change from 1 table to another table it hangs up. Also if I'm in the Picture table and I'm going from image to the next it will start Ok.

But, then will stop working and I get the "Circle of Death".

I've seen this same issue on the forum. But, did not see a definitive answer.

      Any help would be grateful.

          Thank you for your post!

I was unable to reproduce any slowness or hanging with your file in FileMaker Pro 14.0.6 or 15.0.3 on OS X 10.12.2 or Windows 7 Professional. Recover did not find any problems with the file either. I do not have you image files, so I wonder if there could be a problem with some of your images?

Also, here is a way to do a more clean reinstall of FileMaker Pro 14.0.6:

          For Mac OS X:

          -Uninstall FileMaker Pro

          -Open a Finder Window

-Click on the Go Menu and select Computer

-User > Shared > Delete the FileMaker Folder

-Click the Go Menu > Hold Option and Select Library...

-Application Support > Delete "FileMaker" folder

-Caches > Delete any "com.filemaker..." folders

-Caches > Delete the "FileMaker" folder

-Preferences >  Delete any "com.filemaker...plist" files

-Saved Application State > Delete any "com.filemaker..." folders

-Download and install FileMaker Pro 14.0.6

You could also try a New User on your machine.

            TSPigeon,

Thanks for the reply. You maybe right about my image file. I'll get a new image file and see if that works.

              Hi,

It appears that my images are causing the problem. But, I can not find out why. I have about 200 images that varying in "Size" all ".JPG" format.  Is there a limit on the size of the "Images"?

              Attached is the "Recover"

Thank you for the additional information.

How did you determine it was an issue with your images?

I see a lot of "Started consistency check of improperly closed file", which are probably just from force quitting the application.

-Where are the database files located? (Desktop, Network drive, Cloud Server)

-Do you use any Plug-ins with FileMaker Pro?

-Are you receiving any Crash/Crash Log? (If so, could you attach one?)

                  TSPigeon,

As for the issue with my images. For the images that I assumed was working what I did was make 2 different folder and copy half of my file to each folder. I removed all Images that I thought  were too large. When selecting images and the select caused a slowness I removed it. It was a long process. But, Still had the same issue with the other file

                  .

My file is in my hard drive. I have a Mac that uses "Parallels"  for windows 10. The files are on the "C" drive windows side.

No plug in, no crash logs.

You are using FileMaker Pro on Mac when the hang occurs, right?

Can you move the files to the desktop of the Mac and see if issues persist?

Thanks for your continued support. My copy of FM14 is on the windows side of my Mac.

I placed the Image file on the desktop of windows. I still have the same Issue.

                        HI,

The images that I have for some reason continues to give me the "Not Responding" I tested with 10 of my Images and changed their "Names" but still failed. I had a friend test using the same images and he too had the same error.

Both of have the same version of "FM" for windows.

Could someone provide me Images that I can test with.

                        Thanks

                          Hi,

I think I found out why I'm having a problem with my Images. At one tile I ran a Excel code to change the "File Type" from ".Png" to ".Jpg". I found several image that may have caused the problem and edited them . I saved the Images as ".Jpg" and this appeared to resolve my issue.

Thanks TSPigeon for your interest in helping me.
