Does anyone know if you can save import parameters for one that I do over and over with the same criteria?
You can do that by configuring the Import Records step inside a script with the desired parameters.
thanks, erolst, but I'm totally new to FileMaker and Macs and I do not have any programing background to create a script yet (I'm taking classes though! ☺️). Is there anyway to do it without creating a script?
You need a script. Keep in mind that scripts in FileMaker still show their "Macro Roots". Nearly every script step has an equivalent menu option and both usually use the same dialogs so if you can manually import your records, you'll find that setting up the Import Records script step uses the same dialogs and thus will be very familiar to you.
In fact, taking that a little further, if you manually perform an import then immediately write a script that does the same, you will find that the import step will automatically adopt the settings you just used, thus making the scripting process much easier.
Keep in mind that this method is very easy if the file from which you import this data always has the same name and is located in the same folder every time.
More sophisticated scripts are possible where the user is presented with a dialog where they select the file from which to import records and then the script does the rest. (The file still has to have the same row and column structure in each case.)
