You have to add a trigger in your layout setup for OnLayoutLoad that use a script to sort your records like you want.
Show All Records won't trip the OnLayoutEnter trigger as you have already entered the layout at that point.
If you have FileMaker Advanced, you can modify menu options such as Show All Records to perform a script of your design so you can have that menu option (and others) automatically sort after showing all records.
Another useful trigger to handle this issue that will also occur whenever a user performs their own finds, would be to use the OnModeEnter to sort your records each time the window enters Browse mode.
Records are created in chronological order, oldest first, newest last. That's the way that they are displayed too.
If you want anything else, then you have to manage it yourself. Controlling the sort order of the found set is relatively easy. The only difficulty is that there are a lot of actions that can modify the found set and modify the sort order.
There is a handy function called GET ( SortState ). It returns one (1) when the records are sorted. You can use it as the test to determine when you need to sort.
Good options Phil,
I will try them. I guess its the price of learning that I really should have purchased the Advanced version 15 for development.
this comparison will help you determine if Pro Advanced is for you:
if you are referring to the FileMaker Training Series, Advanced will give you more than the Basic version
