Obtaining the number of sub-summary entries

I will try to be succinct:
I have a report which shows the number of hours a person works each day.

The start date and the end date of the report are variable (I can enter whatever dates I wish into these fields).

I wish to work out an average of hours worked per day, but cannot figure out how to get the number of days out of the report.

For clarity: I cannot simply deduct the start date from the end date of the report as this would include non-working days such as weekends, public holidays and sick days, for example.

The sub summaries neatly exclude these days.

So, I need to get a count of the NUMBER OF SUB-SUMMARY RECORDS that the report returns, but cannot see a way to do this.

I have attached a screen shot of the layout which might help you visualise my problem (content redacted to protect the privacy of my clients). What I need from this layout is the number of days (indicated in lavender at the top of each sub-summary section – which will vary from report to report.

Any ideas?

Many thanks
