Building html content for web viewer reporting

I'm doing reporting/simulation in a web viewer, to resemble a given report from Excel that fits into one A4 page. It has some sections, a few variables for the user to juggle with (interest rates) and is basically a few tables collected into an Excel sheet. My approach is to have a header with the user vars, then a body with a WV sized 550pt * 1200 pt. The html content is assembled using a $$var, so I don't have to go into the WV definition all the time. Any good tips for assembling the html, including proper line breaks and indentation for readability?
