Thank you for your post!
FileMaker Pro 13 Advanced seems to be "crashing" when you close. If you could provide a little more information:
-What Operating System are you running?
-Does this occur if you just launch, then quit the application (without opening a file)?
-Do you use any plugins?
I'm also going to move this thread from the FileMaker Community Feedback Space to the Discussions Space where others might find your post easier and offer further advice.
Crashing can be due to file damage. Crashing, especially if it's not a file hosted by server, can damage a file.
So running a recover on your file to check it for damage would seem to be a good first step here. Test the recovered file even if the recover process does not report finding any problems.
Notes about recover
It almost always finds and fully repairs problems with your file, but there's that "almost" qualifier....
Recover doesn't always find every problem in a file.
Recover doesn't always fully and correctly repair a problem in a file.
A recovered file can behave differently than the original even if it does not report finding any problems with your file.
Thus, if you can, "best practice", is to get the most recent clone of a back up that does not show this behavior and import all data from your recovered copy into it and then use this copy of the file going forward.
Sorry it took so long to reply to your questions, but I wanted to do a through testing of when my FMP13A crashes and to answer that question it crashes even if I download one of the sample database solutions just by opening one up navigating around a little in design view and closing out. I do not use any plugins and the system is MacOS Sierra running on my 2014 MacBook Air.
I am wondering if I should do a whole new install of FileMaker 13Pro Advanced
Also thank you for your time in responding, I really appreciate it!
Update also going in and just opening FMP13A creating two tables and then exiting and I get this crash message above. I am setting this up to interact with multiple websites with literally thousands of products and am a little concerned for the integrity of the product data being entered at this point. Any advice is appreciated. Maybe I should just reload FM? not sure? Thank you in advance!
Note that FM13 and 14 are not supported on Sierra:
What it means is that it may or may not work but you should assume that it won't.
If you want to pursue this:
- see if it also crashes when you create a new account on your machine and try it from that new account.
- study the crash log, the info about what the crashed thread was doing may reveal some clues
Okay, at least I know, I was planning on upgrading anyhow. Thank you for solving that issue for me.
